FORESTRY AND LOGGING WORKERS

Forestry and logging workers cultivate and maintain natural and plantation forests, as well as logging, felling and sawing trees. Tasks may include looking out for fires, applying fertilisers, insecticides and herbicides and removing branches and treetops. In the five years to May 2010, employment increased by 75.2 per cent to 5975 (compared with 10.9 per cent for all occupations). Employment growth in the next five years is expected to fall 2.4 per cent per annum (compared with 1.8 per cent for all occupations). Unemployment is high (about 17 per cent) compared to all occupations. About 11 per cent of workers are female (compared to 45.6 per cent for all occupations). Median full-time weekly earnings (before tax) are $747 (compared with $1000 for all occupations).
