Gaming workers, or croupiers, provide gaming services within casinos and other gambling establishments. Duties include ensuring games operating in the casino pit run smoothly, monitoring cash drops to cashiers and chip transactions, observing incidents and settling disputes arising at gaming tables, dealing games in accordance with casino policies and ensuring that bets are placed within the rules of the game. Job prospects for gaming workers are average. In the five years to May 2010, employment increased by 50 per cent to 9342 (compared with growth of 10.9 per cent for all occupations). A high proportion of workers (76 per cent) are employed full time. Employment growth in the next five years is expected to be moderate. The median age is 31 and 16.1 per cent are aged 45 and older (compared with 38.5 per cent for all occupations). Job prospects for graphic and web designers are good. In the five years to May 2010, employment increased by 9.2 per cent to 44,000 (compared with 10.9 per cent for all occupations). A high proportion of workers (78.4 per cent) are employed full time. Employment in the next five years is expected to grow strongly (4 per cent a year, compared with 1.8 per cent for all). About 80.1 per cent have post-school qualifications with the bulk being a bachelor or higher degree (38.6 per cent). Tasks can include: arranging tables; greeting customers and presenting them with menus; taking orders and relaying them to kitchen and bar staff; and serving food and drinks. In the five years to May 2010, employment increased by 10.9 per cent to 109,000 (compared to growth of 10.9 per cent for all occupations). Less than half of workers (22.6 per cent) are employed full time. Employment growth in the next five years is expected to be strong (3.3 per cent a year compared to 1.8 per cent for all occupations). Unemployment is high (about 8.9 per cent) compared to all occupations. About 76.5 per cent of workers in this occupation are female (compared to 45.6 per cent for all occupations).
